Back in 2021 at the height of the streaming wars, Disney [announced that it was adapting a science fiction classic](https://www.andrewliptak.com/disney-orders-nautilus-a-captain-nemo-origin-series/): Jules Verne's *20,000 Leagues Under the Sea*. This particular take, *Nautilus*, would follow the origins of Captain Nemo, an Indian Prince who invented a futuristic submarine and ruled the depths, working to fight against the British Empire. The novel follows Professor Pierre Aronnax, a scientist who was captured by Nemo and taken aboard the submarine.

The series went into production in 2022, and when Disney started slashing its catalog to cut costs, [it also dumped *Nautilus*](https://deadline.com/2023/08/nautilus-canceled-disney-plus-uk-series-cost-cutting-content-removal-1235529143/?ref=andrewliptak.com)*.* [AMC ended up snagging it a month later](https://www.amcnetworks.com/press-releases/amc-networks-licenses-epic-drama-nautilus-a-live-action-original-series-from-disney-entertainment/?ref=andrewliptak.com), with Prime Video streaming it in the UK. Now, our first look at the show comes from Prime Video UK, which launched a trailer for the show earlier today.

Shazad Latif (*Star Trek: Discovery*) plays Captain Nemo, who steals the *Nautilus* and goes on a vendetta against the East India Trading Company and British Empire. It looks like a lot of fun, with a real "adventure of the week" vibe to it. The show's slated to begin streaming in the UK on October 25th, but I haven't been able to find when it'll debut here in the US.
