Gordon van Gelder, the Philadelphia Science Fiction Society, and the Philip K. Dick Trust have announced the finalists for this year's [Philip K. Dick Award](https://www.philipkdickaward.org/?ref=andrewliptak.com).

The award is a notable one: it's issued annually to honor "science fiction published in paperback original form in the United States during the previous calendar year." It's selected by a jury (this year's judges were Maurice Broaddus, C. S. Friedman, Rajan Khanna, Carol McGuirk, and Carrie Vaughn).

The award has included some notable works since its inception in 1983: books like Rudy Rucker's *Software*, William Gibson's *Neuromancer*, Stephen Baxter's *The Time Ships*, and Richard K. Morgan's *Altered Carbon* – [and more](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Philip%5FK.%5FDick%5FAward?ref=andrewliptak.com). The most recent recipient of the award was Bethany Jacobs for *These Burning Stars* and Rebekah Bergman's *The Museum of Human History*, which earned a special citation.

Here are this year's finalists (*usual disclaimer about Bookshop.org links and commissions*):

It seems like a good list! I've heard good things about Sofia Samatar's book, and I'm in the midst of reading Adrian Tchaikovsky's book right now, which I'm enjoying.

The winner will be announced at [Norwescon 47](https://www.norwescon.org/?ref=andrewliptak.com) on Friday, April 18, 2025.
